RB Hunt After School Program - Fall Session #1 (August 31, 2026)

SAYCSC RB Hunt After School Program Information

The RB Hunt After School program is open to students of RB Hunt only. We have two RB Hunt groups this fall, 1st-2nd graders and 3rd-5th graders. Our afterschool program consists of one day per week on Monday afternoons, for four consecutive weeks. We will pick your child up from RB Hunt at dismissal and walk them over to SAYC. From 2:45pm - 6:30pm your child will be in our care exploring the Salt Run waterway. Your child will participate in scavenger hunts, sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and more. Sailing is conducted on the Hobie Wave and Flying Scot sailboats. Students may also kayak and paddleboard during their sessions. Pick up will be at SAYC and children need to have a bag packed with closed toe and closed heel water shoes, swimsuit, towel, reusable water bottle and sunscreen, and a change of clothes. Optional items include hat and sunglasses, and outerwear for cooler weather days. Registration cost includes an afterschool snack. Students commit to 4 weeks, Monday afternoon sessions only.

In the event of foul weather, your child will remain under our large, covered deck taking part in planned activities until 6:30pm pick up time. Activities include boat building, burgee making, and many other sailing related educational activities.

Registering for Spring Session #1 includes the four consecutive Mondays:

8/31, 9/14, 9/21 and 9/28.

We also offer a Little Skippers after school program for ages 6-7, open to children of all schools. If your child is 8 or older and attends a different school, you can register them for our Adventure Sailing after school program.

SAYCSC Little Skippers After School Program Information

Little Skippers after school program is designed for 6-7-year-olds with or without water and sailing experience. Our curriculum is designed to introduce the basics of sailing and water safety and is instructed by adult US Sailing Certified instructors only. Little Skippers will experience sailing on the Hobie Getaway, Hobie Wave, Flying Scot and/or the Opti SailCube sailboats. Students may also use kayaks and paddleboards. Explore Salt Run and beyond, and have fun sailing!

Adventure Sailing is for those who to explore and enjoy the adventure of sailing, no previous knowledge required. Sailors commit to 4 weeks, Monday afternoon sessions only. Explore Salt Run and beyond, and have fun sailing on the Hobie Wave, Hobie Getaway, and Flying Scot sailboats! Students may also adventure on kayaks and paddleboards. Ages 8-12 welcome. If your child is over the age of 12 and wants to participate, please contact Assistant Sailing Director, Forest Brewer.

J24 Fall WNR Series Learn to Race Program (September 02, 2026)

Gone are the days where you must own your own keelboat to race in St. Augustine - forget about ownership, dockage, insurance, maintenance, and cleaning fees, etc. - just sign up and get immersed in sailboat racing in St. Augustine!

This is an 8-week Learn to Race program on the J/24 keelboat, complete with an experienced racing instructor each session.

Registration includes 3 practice nights and 5 race nights, 4:00pm - 8:00pm each session. Practice nights: 9/2, 9/16, and 9/30. Race nights: 9/9, 9/23, 10/7, 10/14, and 10/21.

Our J/24 "Irish Goodbye" will be registered in the SAYC Fall Wednesday Night Racing PHRF series, and you will have exclusive access to this boat each practice and race day throughout the fall series. Each participant will be taught how to race in each crew position: skipper, main trim, jib trim, spin trim, bow, etc. Racing strategies and tactics will be taught on and off the water (rules, mark roundings, starts, time and distance, etc.)

The J/24 is a stable and easy boat to learn on, and with many practices and race nights you will finish the series with great racing experience under your belt. All race and practice nights finish with a debrief at the Yacht Club - plan to purchase food and beverages and enjoy learning together on and off the water.

SAYCSC Sail Team Racing Program

Opti Development, Opti Green Fleet, Opti Advanced, C420 Performance, 420 Regional, and ILCA Teams

Opti Development Team is a program designed to introduce racing to our youngest and newest sailors. Participation requires basic boat and sailing knowledge; sailors must have at least two weeks of Sail Camp Opti 2 or previous experience sailing an Optimist, or Sail Director approval. Development Team does not travel and race at regattas. The Development Team focus is on safety and fun, learning to sail upwind and downwind with awareness and proper mechanics, how to stop and start, dock, rig and derig, navigate a racecourse, understand a starting sequence and be introduced to race flags and basic racing rules, preparing sailors for racing in a fun way. Sailors learn these skills utilizing the SailCube Opti. Development Team practice twice a week on Saturday and Thursday afternoons.

Opti Green Fleet Team is designed for those who know how to sail and want to learn to race, or improve their racing skills. Opti Green Fleet team practices three times a week on Saturday and Thursday, and a Wednesday afternoon race night. Must show proficiency in rigging, launching, tacking and gybing, docking and capsize recovery. Boat usage (charter) included with additional fee, two season maximum for chartering, must purchase a boat thereafter. For more information, contact Sail Director. 4-6 regattas in the fall season.

Opti Advanced Team (Up to age 15) - Designed for experienced racers with previous Sail Team racing experience only. RWB sailors must provide their own boats. Advanced Team practices four times a week on Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday, and a Wednesday afternoon race night. Opti RWB Team has more focused and demanding practices, Green Fleet prerequisite or Sail Director approval. 4-6 travel regattas in the fall season.

C420 Performance Team (Ages 13 - 17) - Designed for those with 420 racing experience who are ready for a competitive push. SAYCSC C420 Performance Team teaches club racing (trapeze and spinnaker) and attends only C420 events (4-6 per season) in offshore and inshore venues. Sailors should expect longer practices and a heavier workload as this program is designed to push sailors to be their competitive best. Practices are Sundays and Wednesday afternoons, with some Tuesday and Thursday rigging and boat loading sessions. This is our most involved 420 program.

420 Regional Team (Ages 13 - 17) The 420 Regional team is comprised of new and advanced sailors who want to learn to race the 420 at a slower pace. The 420 Regional Team practices twice a week on Sundays and Wednesday afternoons with a dedicated 420 coach. Sailors focus on main and jib racing only and attend just one nearby regatta in the fall season.

Sailboats, sails, rigging, blades, covers, etc. included for ALL C420 and 420 racing. 4-6 travel regattas in the fall season.

ILCA Team (Ages 13 - 17) - Back this fall, our ILCA racing program is for ILCA sailors who own their own boats. With a dedicated ILCA coach, sailors will learn how to be competitive in the ILCA 4, 6 or 7. All sailors attend 4-6 regattas per season, including D-13 Championships and Junior Olympic events. ILCA team practices alongside the 420 teams on Sundays and Wednesday afternoons.

Opti Green, Opti Advanced, ILCA, and both 420 teams will attend traveling regattas - Opti Development sailors will be invited to attend traveling regattas for observation. All sailors and families participate in one public service event each season. Schedules for each team are linked above.

Interested sailors must commit to all practices, clinics, regattas, and maintenance and trailering days. Parental involvement is required, please email Sail Director with questions prior to registering.

Mandatory parent/sailor meeting on Saturday, September 12th for all participants.

Handbook and waiver link sent upon successful registration. Handbook acceptance agreements, all waivers, etc. must be electronically signed by September 12th.
