Sail Camp - Week 8 - 420/Laser (Ages 13-17) (July 30, 2026)

Sail Camp - 420/Laser (Ages 13-17)

Monday to Friday 9:00am to 3:00pm

Sail Camp - 420/Laser is designed for an older age group. The 420 sailboat is a double-handed, heavier and more challenging boat, and the Laser is a larger, single-handed and much more challenging boat than an Opti. Both boats require a larger body size and weight, making them perfect boats for teens. This program can accommodate all skill levels - beginner, intermediate and advanced sailors welcome. Sailors will also experience sailing on our Hobie Cats and Flying Scot sailboats. By the end of the week, your child will learn these skills:

Parts of the boat
Rigging/de-rigging
Capsize and recovery
Steering, body positioning, and sailing mechanics
Skipper and crew roles/responsibilities
Launching and docking
Points of sail and sail trim
How to tack and gybe (and fly a spinnaker if skill level allows)
Basic rules of the road
Beach landing and safety position
Proper cleaning and stowing of sailing equipment
Basic wind, weather, and tide knowledge
Basic knot tying skills

While daily Sail Camp structure varies by program, your child will have two on-water sessions per day, including swim breaks, snack breaks, a lunch break, and daily knot tying sessions before dismissal.

*420/Laser participants must be 13 - 17 and must weigh a minimum of 110lbs. If your child is 13-15 and does not meet these requirements, please register them for the older Opti beginner group. For safety reasons, the only exceptions to this policy is previous sailing or racing experience in a 420 or Laser.

Each sailor will receive their Sail Camp shirt (included in registration fee) on Thursday afternoon pick-up. Friday is Sail Camp shirt day - every camper should wear their shirt to camp for the day. Please choose size wisely, you will only receive what is ordered on registration form. Shirts are given out on the first week of attendance only. There is an option to purchase additional shirts on the registration form.

Adventure Camp - Ages 8-12

Monday to Friday 9:00am to 3:00pm

Utilizing kayaks, SUPs (stand-up paddle boards), sailboats and more, your child(ren) will learn about the Salt Run environment through exploration and adventure. Daily challenges, sailing on Hobie Cats and Flying Scots, scavenger hunts, picnics, swimming and water games are just a few of the activities your child will experience through the week. Your child will not learn how to sail their own boat, but will experience sailing on multiple boats as well as learn basic wind, weather, and tide knowledge and basic knot tying skills.

Intro To Sailing Clinic - J24 Tuesday/Thursday (July 30, 2026)

This Introduction to Sailing clinic will be taught on the J/24 keelboat, pictured above, and is made up of two 3-hour days. Each session will be led by one of our US Sailing certified instructors and will consist of classroom lessons, rigging demonstrations, a water session, de-rigging and stowage procedures, and a de-brief. In this introductory clinic you will learn these skills:

Parts of the Boat, Points of Sail + Sail Trim, Tacking & Gybing, Rigging and De-rigging,

Basic Rules of the Road, Docking, Basic Knot Tying

Breakdown of the class schedule is as follows:

Tuesday - Instruction Heavy Day

20-minute whiteboard lesson - parts of the boat and parts of the sail
1 hour on-water instructional lesson on rigging, design, and sailing mechanics
First sail with guided steering
Instruction and practice tacking/gybing under mainsail only
Guided de-rigging and docking
Debrief

Thursday - Practice Heavy Day

30-minute whiteboard lesson - points of sail and jib sailing
Guided main and jib sailing, both up and downwind
Man overboard drill
Practice maintaining headings at different points of sail
Docking practice
Team de-rigging
Debrief

Please bring your PFD (we have loaners if you do not), closed-toe shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen, and water bottle. Optional items include hats, towel, and a change of clothes.

Fall 2026 Sail Team Try-Outs

Sail Team Try-Outs are mandatory for all those who wish to join the SAYCSC Sail Team program. All new sailors and transitioning sailors are required to attend both days.

Try-Outs will be lead by SAYCSC Sail Team coaching staff, with team and placement announced/parents notified on Wednesday, August 5th. Please use this event to register.

We will be hosting a Sail Team informational parent meeting on Monday, July 27th from 5:30-7:00pm. We will discuss schedules, travel, parental involvement and commitment, and sailor experience and commitment. All those interested and who plan to attend try-outs are highly encouraged to attend this info night. Being a member of the SAYCSC Sail Team is equally as rewarding as it is challenging, and we want to make sure each family is a good fit for our program and be able to help you make the decision to try out and become a part of our race team family. SAYC Member Checkout - Hobie Wave/420 (July 30, 2026)

Learn to Sail Clinic - Beginner J24 (August 02, 2026)

The SAYC Sailing Center Beginner Learn to Sail clinic is taught on the J/24 keelboat, pictured above, and consists of a six-hour day filled with classroom lessons, rigging demonstrations, land drills, a long water session, de-rigging and de-brief. In this beginner clinic you will learn these skills:

Registration Process:

Once you find a program for your child to attend, here’s how registration works:

For ALL sailors 17 and younger:

Click the 'Register' button under pricing options.
Sign up with the sailor’s first and last name, but use parent or legal guardian email address
Each child will require their own free membership account
It’s OK to reuse the parent or legal guardian’s email address for multiple sailors
Once payment is received for a program, a membership account will be created for you that gives you access to your sailor’s profile and course documentation, including SAYCSC Sail Camp Handbook.
You must sign into your membership account and update your sailors emergency contacts, date of birth, etc.
Signed waivers are required - electronic waiver link contained in confirmation email. Please be sure to submit before the first day of camp!

Guided main and jib sailing, both up and downwind

RB Hunt After School Program - Fall Session #1 (August 31, 2026)

SAYCSC RB Hunt After School Program Information

The RB Hunt After School program is open to students of RB Hunt only. We have two RB Hunt groups this fall, 1st-2nd graders and 3rd-5th graders. Our afterschool program consists of one day per week on Monday afternoons, for four consecutive weeks. We will pick your child up from RB Hunt at dismissal and walk them over to SAYC. From 2:45pm - 6:30pm your child will be in our care exploring the Salt Run waterway. Your child will participate in scavenger hunts, sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and more. Sailing is conducted on the Hobie Wave and Flying Scot sailboats. Students may also kayak and paddleboard during their sessions. Pick up will be at SAYC and children need to have a bag packed with closed toe and closed heel water shoes, swimsuit, towel, reusable water bottle and sunscreen, and a change of clothes. Optional items include hat and sunglasses, and outerwear for cooler weather days. Registration cost includes an afterschool snack. Students commit to 4 weeks, Monday afternoon sessions only.

In the event of foul weather, your child will remain under our large, covered deck taking part in planned activities until 6:30pm pick up time. Activities include boat building, burgee making, and many other sailing related educational activities.

Little Skippers after school program is designed for 6-7-year-olds with or without water and sailing experience. Our curriculum is designed to introduce the basics of sailing and water safety and is instructed by adult US Sailing Certified instructors only. Little Skippers will experience sailing on the Hobie Getaway, Hobie Wave, Flying Scot and/or the Opti SailCube sailboats. Students may also use kayaks and paddleboards. Explore Salt Run and beyond, and have fun sailing!

Adventure Sailing is for those who to explore and enjoy the adventure of sailing, no previous knowledge required. Sailors commit to 4 weeks, Monday afternoon sessions only. Explore Salt Run and beyond, and have fun sailing on the Hobie Wave, Hobie Getaway, and Flying Scot sailboats! Students may also adventure on kayaks and paddleboards. Ages 8-12 welcome.
