The St. Augustine Yacht Club Sailing Center is proud to offer sailing programs to our local community. No matter your age or skill level, we offer a wide variety of programs to get you on the water. From age 5 - 95, we are ready to help you set sail.
Since 2012, SAYCSC has offered on-water instruction to local youth and has grown into a multifaceted program reaching over 200 kids a year. In 2018 we began our Learn to Sail programs designed for adults. Both the adult and youth programs are open to members and non-members.
Youth Sailing at SAYCSC is comprised of multiple programs operating year-round, designed to accommodate all levels of experience and aimed to build skills and confidence both on and off the water through the sport of sailing.
We have an established Summer Sail Camp program that is open to all children aged 5 – 17, operating annually from June through August with a weekly Monday through Friday schedule from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. It is designed to both introduce the basics of sailing and seamanship and build on existing sailing skills. Children learn to sail on Optimist sailboats and 420 sailboats, as well experience sailing on a multi-hull Hobie Cat and a Flying Scot. In addition to Sail Camp, we offer an Adventure Camp for kids aged 8 – 17, and a half-day Little Skippers Camp for children aged 5 – 7 (9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.). Led by US Sailing Certified Sailing Instructors, our Summer Camp is not only affordable, but is the most fun and educational experience for youth in our community.
In addition to our Summer Sail Camp programs, we have a SAYCSC Sail Team, with two seasons operating annually in the Fall and Spring. The Sail Team is comprised of an Opti race team and a 420 race team. The SAYCSC race team is a unique experience and has been growing in momentum since the sport has increased in popularity over the years. As a member of the SAYCSC race team your child will attend multiple practices a week under the coaching and supervision of US Sailing Certified Sailing Instructors, and participate in 3-5 regattas per season. SAYC hosts one regatta per season, the Nights of Lights Regatta in the fall, and the Wendy Thompson Memorial Regatta in the spring. Prior sailing experience is required, with more information listed on our Sail Team page.
We offer Learn to Sail (LTS) and Learn to Race (LTR) clinics for adults. The LTS and LTR programs are designed to provide skill-based clinics for teaching adults how to sail, as well as fine-tuning their basic sailing skills. There are three LTS clinic offerings on the 420 and Flying Scot sailboats: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. The three levels of classes are based on experience and built for someone to participate and progress to the next level. We also offer LTR clinics on the Flying Scot. All clinics are designed to be consistent and repeatable, and are led by SAYCSC US Sailing Certified Instructors. Find more information in the Adult & Family Sailing page.
