SAYCSC Intro To Sailing Classes

this Introduction to sailing class will be taught on the j24 keelboat sailboat, pictured above:

The SAYC Sailing Center intro to sailing class is made up of two 3 hour days, where an instructor will go over classroom lessons, rigging demonstrations, two water sessions, de-rigging and de-brief. In this beginner introduction lessons you will learn these skills:

Parts of the Boat, Points of Sail + Sail Trim, Tacking & Gybing, Rigging and De-rigging,

Rules of the Road, Docking, Basic Knot Tying

Breakdown of the class schedule is as follows:

Tuesday - instructional heavy day

•   1 hour on water instructional lesson on rigging and boat mechanics
•   first sail with guided steering
•   instruction on tacking/gybing
•   Guided Derigging and docking
•   Debrief

Thursday - Practice Heavy day

• 30 minute chalk talk on point of sail and jib sailing
• guided sailing under main and jib
• Man overboard drill 
• practice maintaining headings at different points of sail
• Guided Derigging and docking
  
• Debrief

Please bring your PFD (we have loaners if you do not), closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, and water bottle. Optional items include hats, towel, and a change of clothes.
